It is hard to describe in words the elaborate story-telling that is integral to the Bhutanese festivals known as Tshechu. Masked dancers act out well-known legends to the delight of audiences made up of the local community and visitors from near and far. But while the spirits are on obvious and conspicuous display at a tshechu, the many spiritual layers of Buddhism resonate in every facet of life in Bhutan.
