IRAN
IRAN, 2017
My trip to Iran reminded me in so many ways of my travels in Cuba. It was a destination that even intrepid travel friends were wary of. Our governments were and still are at loggerheads. Travel restrictions made getting there complicated. Hats off to my friend Nevada Wier and her team of travel experts for making the trip not only possible but magical. Without a doubt one of my best travel experiences ever. Teheran is as sophisticated as any big city in the West and the smaller cities are charming and filled with people trying to go about their daily lives just as they would be doing anywhere else. Iran has a deep and epic history, on display at ancient archaeological sites as well as at vast mosques and other amazing examples of Islamic architecture. But more than anything else, the people were welcoming, nearly always astonished and so pleased that Americans would visit their country.
