PORTFOLIO INDEX
From one’s front yard to far-flung corners of the globe, the world presents endless opportunities for making images that tell a good story. I have always believed that a collection of images amplifies each individual image in the same way that a group of musicians strengthens each other’s performances. For my part, inspirations can and do come from every direction, and I rarely spend much time plotting out a series. I enjoy being carried along by the images themselves, each one suggesting the next. Some of these portfolios represent a long, slow accumulation of images over a period of several years, others are the fruit of a single intense photo trip. I have nothing against digital imaging, but I prefer printing in the darkroom over making digital prints. I find that the process of exploring different papers and chemical processes nearly always takes any given image to a more interesting place than I am able to pre-visualize by staring at the computer screen. Plus, it’s just more fun.
